2010 is the 30th Anniversary of the worldwide release of Rubik's Cube. Let's make it GREAT!

The Cube is making a comeback! Though as an icon it never really left. All through popular culture and entertainment of the last 25 years, Rubik's Cube has been present and recognizable. However, the Cube has recently made a resurgence in movies, and TV commercials, as well as overall Cube sales. More and more younger and younger people recognize the Cube. I have - of late - seen Rubik's Cube everywhere from movies to advertizements to music videos to the local pub, not to mention in more and more stores.

Another Cube comeback is the growing interest in speedcubing as a sort of intellectual sport. There was over a twenty year break between the first and second Rubik's World Championships, however now the Championship is a regular, biannual event. With the formation of the World Cube Association, the annual slate of official speedcubing and related contests has nearly tripled in the last few years. Many young people who weren't even born when the Cube first went on sale are now huge fans. They're the ones making and breaking all the world records!

One hope I have for Rubik's Movie is to spark more Cube interest in kids, families, and people like me who were kids in the 80s and have fond memories of the amazing colored puzzle cube that made us all think a little harder, in addition to driving us a little crazy.
