Fort Worth
I live in Fort Worth, Texas. I know this place well, and I like it very much. So Fort Worth is where Rubik's Movie takes place. Very different from its counterpart Dallas, Fort Worth is a big city with a small town feel. The downtown and old stockyards have life and character, while they are surrounded by every manner of neighborhood all mixed up in a patchwork of new and old. The neighborhoods in East Fort Worth, where the story is set, are representative of the variety in this city. There are patches of woods and undevelped land right in the middle of the urban sprawl. Ranch land sits just a mile from Shoppong centers, restaurants, and different schools. Fort Worth is a good mix, an ordinary place with interesting details where one could picture a normal family like Rudy Rodriguexz and his kids. See some more pictures of Fort Worth. Six Flags Over Texas
And Fort Worth is in very close proximity to Six Flags Over Texas, where a couple of important sequences in Rubik's Movie take place. This is the original Six Flags theme park located in Arlington, Texas, a little east of Fort Worth. It's a major attraction with lots of cool rides, which is good since Rubik loves roller coasters. The Texas Chute Out (parachute ride) and the big orange Oil Derrick tower - perhaps the most notable structure on the Six Flags skyline - play an impotant role in these sequences of Rubik's Movie. The Gaylord Texan Hotel in Grapevine Texas (between Dallas and Fort Worth) is the location of a major speedcubing event which takes place in Rubik's Movie. This place is pretty spectacular, with lots of indoor gardens, rivers, waterfalls, and pathways all in a huge atrium looking out into the sky over Lake Grapevine, a perfect venue for a Rubik's Cube media extravaganzza! The hotel also has a large convention area as well, perfect for the competition part of a cubing event. This place is just plain neato! See some more pictures of the Gaylord Texan. Budapest
The Big Picture
The film industry in Texas has grown, and Texas isn't just for westerns anymore. I think the juxtaposition of Rubik with the culture in Texas would make Rubik's Movie a lot of fun. Not only is Fort Worth a friendly location with an interestng mix of cultures, it's also in an area with a wealth of film production companies and facilities available. The state of Texas is also home to excellent animation and post production facilities. It might be possible for Rubik's Movie to be shot entirely in Texas - except for maybe those Budapest parts. Check out the Texas State Film Commission for more info on the film industry in Texas. |
