How do you put Rubik's Cubes in every Six Flags theme park in North America?
There are Six Flags theme parks all over North America, but the original Six Flags park is in Arlington, Texas, right next door to Fort Worth. It's one of my favorite places and a great location for a couple of key sequences in Rubik's Movie. Rubik himself is a property of Warner Brothers Animation which already has licensed many characters to Six Flags parks.
So ow cool would it be to have Rubik's Cubes in all the Six Flags gift shops? There could even be an exclusive Rubik's Cube in each Six Flags park, Rubik/Six Flags t-shirts, or little Rubik action figures and keychains!
Perhaps some speedcubing events at Six Flags? People have already taken to solving the cube on roller coasters. Carlos was one of the first on record in Rubik the Amazing Cube - episode 13 - Saturday Night Rubik. Why not a real contest? I think There are lots of fun possibilities here.
How about in every Starbucks Coffee?
Get Starbucks Entertainment involved with Rubik's Movie! I was in a Starbucks Coffee store a couple years ago and I realized that there were words all over the place, long, weird words I'd never heard of. Then I realized it was part of some promotion. It was for a movie!
The movie was Akeelah and the Bee, a little family film about an inner-city girl who goes to the national spelling bee. I was instantly interested in seeing the movie, so I went and saw it. And I was so glad that not only was it a wonderful, worthwhile family film, it was also getting national exposure in a major outlet like Starbucks. Every store carried the movie soundtrack, which Starbucks had produced on their eclectic record label, as well as little prmotional cards with sample spelling bee words printed on them. I thought the campaign was pretty clever and not too over-the-top. It definitely got my attention, and I never forgot it.
So when I started working on the idea for Rubik's Movie, Akeelah and the Bee instantly came to mind as an example to follow, something positive, uplifting, and inspiring for kids and adults. So why not a similar partnership?
I'd love to have a coffee mug with a Rubik's Cube on it for my hazlenut latte. And how about a Rubik's Cube to solve while drinking an iced mocha, and maybe some little promo cards with cube solution tips to help solve it? And check out my ideas for the Rubik's Movie soundtrack which could be right there in a dispaly by the coffee mugs and Rubik's Cubes.
Or on every Dr Pepper can?
It worked for Spider-Man! And in Rubik's Movie Dr Pepper is an integral part of the plot. Rubik's affinity for soda, specifically Dr Pepper, gets him into some interesting situations. Dr Pepper - one of the oldest carbonated drinks in the US - is also a native product of the state of Texas, which is the primary location for Rubik's Movie. Dr Pepper headquarters is located in Plano, Texas, not too far from Fort Worth, where Rubik and his family live. And, hey, Dr Pepper just tastes good. Admittedly, I'm a huge fan of the stuff, the real GOOD STUFF just like they originally made it in Waco in 1885.
I'd love to see Rubik make a Dr Pepper commercial and if I could collect Rubik's Movie Dr Pepper cans, that would be the greatest! And here in the US, where Dr Pepper has a reputation for being a unique alternative to cola, Rubik and his unique movie would make a great match.
What about cuddly Rubik's Cubes?
This is one of my soft sculptures - not quite the same kind of sculpture Erno Rubik does. Rubik makes a cute soft toy. He sits there looking all content and pleasant. And the great thing about him is that he can't be scrambled up. So this is the cube for people who are overwhelmed by regular Rubik's Cubes. He might also appeal to the much younger folks.
Give the Gift of Cubes
Christmas is my favorite time to go to the movies. I also think the best movies are playing during the holiday season. I had fun in 2007 with this Rubiky Christmas card. I also enjoyed imagining that Rubik's Movie might be playing at local theaters among all the other fun magical movies that start in November and December each year. I really feel like it's a late fall/hoilday movie, which would probably cause a few cubes to find their way under the Christmas tree.
And these are just some of the ideas I've had since I started writing Rubik's Movie It might take another website to list them all!
